First Visit-Consultation

Michigan Maxillofacial Surgery and Implant Center makes every effort to provide the most comprehensive surgical patient care. At your consultation appointment, you will have an opportunity to meet your surgeon and our friendly staff. Dr. Schiro takes special care to go over your health and physical information and to create a treatment plan specific for your desires and needs.

You will also have the opportunity to meet with one of our treatment coordinators to go over your insurance plan estimate and financing information. Our treatment coordinators are well versed in all areas of insurance and will be able to answer questions you may have regarding your treatment estimate.

Once you have completed your initial consultation, frequently your surgery can be performed on the same day.  However, a complex medical history or treatment plan may require a second appointment to provide treatment on a subsequent visit.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation.

  • Your surgical referral slip and any X-rays if applicable.
  • A complete and current list of medications you are presently taking and any other pertinent medical information including your physician’s name.
  • If you have medical or dental insurance, bring the necessary completed forms.  This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims.

IMPORTANT:  All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the initial consultation visit.

Please have nothing to eat or drink 6 hours prior to your scheduled surgery.  You will also need a responsible adult to drive you home.

Please alert the office in advance if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to surgery (i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves, total joint replacements, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are on any medication (i.e. heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.)

X-rays

If your dentist or physician has taken x-rays, please request that they forward them to our office in advance.  If there is not enough time to allow them to be forwarded by mail, please pick them up and bring them with you to our office at the time of your scheduled appointment.  If additional films are necessary, they can be taken at our facility.
